Move in Day

Quick disclaimer. Some of the post this year will be about my Disney College Program (DCP) experience. Some of these things happened a year ago and details about Disney may have changed since then. Any questions about DCP let me know!

Day one of DCP involved us to move into our apartment. There are four apartment complexes that DCP people can stay in, Vista Way, The Commons, Patterson Court and Chatham Square.

I found out I was staying in a 4 bedroom, 8 person apartment. That’s A LOT of girls to live with. All the apartments are separated by gender and at the time of my program, separated by age. Everyone under 21 was grouped and everyone over 21 was grouped. This was because the legal age for drinking in the USA is 21. You could also pick the people you lived with or go completely random, which is what I did.  One of the cool things about my roommate was that I had actually met her at the interviews in Sydney 5 months before.

I was the second person to get into the apartment and picked my room! The rest of the household showed up over the next hour. We all got to know each other and then we decided to head to Walmart to get items for our house! It was an interesting trip, to say the least. We didn’t know each other's names by heart yet and Walmart is a very large store. We ended up losing a few people and were at Walmart for 3 hours. We did manage to get almost everything we needed though.

Back at the apartment, the grape eight as we called ourselves started to unpack and put away the Walmart haul and our own suitcases. It was so exciting. After we were done we all sat down and started to get to know each other. It was late so we decided to all have some tea whilst we chatted, as it turns out our apartment did not come with mugs and we did not buy any at Walmart, so we had to use bowls instead. It was quite a funny bonding experience.

We had been given an itinerary a month before coming to America with a check-in time, I said for 10:30, so at my time I went to my apartment, which was Chatham Square, to find out what apartment and how many roommates I would be having.

I didn’t sleep very much that night as I was too excited because the next day was Traditions, which is a class all-new Disney cast members go through to learn about Disney Magic and how to create our own. I won’t say too much about Traditions as it was fun going into it blind and for any new CPs going into the program, don’t go looking for what it is, trust me, just go in blind, it’s so much better.

After Traditions, you get access to the parks so all eight of us went into The Magic Kingdom, got first visit buttons and went on our first ride as cast members, Big Thunder Mountain. After that, we went and watch the first of many Happily Ever After’s.

So that was the first few days of my DCP, if you have any questions leave them below and I will either answer them then or make a list and answer them in a post later on!

See you next week
