Tasha Trebeck, Where the Heck are You?
HELLLLOOOO Lovely people.
Oh boy, 2020 was a rollercoaster of a year! What did you get up to in your year of quarantine? Did you use your newfound free time to learn a new skill? get fit and healthy? Catch up on some tv shows? Let me know by commenting below!
For me 2020 meant a lot of time watching television, I watched the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, films and television shows in chronological order. I spent a lot of time playing Animal Crossing New Horizons, which was a lot of fun. Like most people, I stress ate and gained a few kilos. I believe the world is calling it COVID Weight.
During the pandemic, my partner at the time got stuck here from the USA and we got to live with each other for about five months. When he eventually moved back home it became really hard to go back to long distance. Especially since we had spent so much time together during 2020. A combination of going back to long-distance and not knowing when we would see each other in person again, or if the long-distance would ever stop lead to a break up We kept pushing back our move date because of work or school and our priorities seemed to have changed from being together to working on ourselves. This was not a bad thing, it just was a thing that happened. So at the end of 2020, we broke up, we are still friendly towards each other. Have a conversation over social media sometimes. and I have no doubt and hope that we will be proper friends again someday. I definitely miss geeking out over Disney with him as nobody here in Australia is on the same level as I am.
2020 also bought some of the most amazing memories with my close group of friends. When COVID restrictions here in South Australia had eased up my group of six went on a holiday to the town of Tanunda and visited a few wineries together. We also played real-life Among US. The Airbnb we rented was perfect for it and it was so much fun. a few months later we went to Willmington, which is about three hours outside of Adelaide. We went that far out to try and see the Gemini Meteor shower. Sadly it was covered with clouds all weekend. We still had a blast though. Went on a hike together. Played some drinking games. One of my friends, who had not drunk in six years decided to have a drink for the first time. He bought a nice Whiskey and made a tossed and how lucky he was to be surrounded by such good friends. This group had become my found family before 2020, but this year just highlighted how much they mean to me and I was so happy at how close we had become.
I won't go into too much detail, but Wilmington probably will be the last time all six of us hang out. Two of them moved away to another country and won't be back for at least 5 years. Two of them broke up in a less than amicable way. All of them are still amazing good people who I love dearly. But the end of January 2021 defiantly felt like the end of a series. All of us were at the airport, the ex-couple were there and whilst they didn't talk to each other they were polite to each other for the sake of the couple moving away. It is an odd feeling having things end. I generally thought that my group of 6 would be there for life, we were so strong and I thought we would all be playing board games and laughing when were 80 in a retirement village, still having weekly games nights. Life carries on inspire of change and change seems to be the only permanent thing in life. I am sad that my regular group has ended, and due to going back to school, I have yet to find a new one, I also don't know if I want to 'replace' that group or if I want to hold out hope for a reunion that may never happen.
Enough with the sad stuff, finally, I got into film school! I graduated from University in 2018 and worked at Disney that year. I loved my time but lost all my connections in the industry. My aim for this year at film school is to gain connections and get a job at the end of it. My overall goal as a filmmaker is to work for Industrial Light and Magic, working on Star Wars films. I also want to work on Marvel films, Disney Films and pretty much any film I can squeeze my way on set for.
So That is a very brief overview of what the last 364 days have looked like for me, if you want any further details to let me know. Until next time.
Love Tasha x
