Life working at Disney

2018 I worked as a quick service food and beverage cast member at ESPN Wide World of Sports. This is the sports complex owned and operated by Disney. And this is where my home location was for my full year at Disney. And I loved it. This is just a quick snapshot of what working at ESPN was like.

Admittedly I did cry a little when I found out I wasn’t going to be working in one of the parks, however, ESPN ended up being the BEST place for me to work, and here’s why…

The year at ESPN started with the end of football season so we had some of the ProBall events as the complex, this is when some of the big players in each team would come together for a game just for fun. I was also lucky enough to work during the Superbowl. We had it on every screen in the complex and everyone was cheering and going crazy. It was super interesting to watch, I had worked a 14-hour shift that day and I was still 'zazzed' by the end of it because of all the energy that was in the room from watching the Superbowl.

The first big event that I  worked at ESPN, and the one that truly made me feel at home at ESPN,  was as a Cabana girl throughout the entire Atlanta Braves Spring Training season. This was the high light of my entire year at ESPN and Disney. I was able to watch the game (which is baseball) and work with some of the best girls ever, some of whom I am still extremely close with. Braves is also where I met a lot of my close Disney College Program (DCP) friends.

After Braves season was done, it was time for Run Disney Marathon season. You know all the food and drinks you get at the start and end of a race? Well if it’s a Disney race ESPN provides all of it. These shifts were extremely early. I’m talking 2am starts and 10am finishes. For the majority of Run Disney shifts, I was able to work with my DCP and ESPN family. It was great, we were all overtired and pepped up on coffee and midnight air. I remember on one of the last Run Disney Shifts, we all finished at 8am and decided to go to our local IHop for breakfast. So 15 of us were all cramped around a table and we all had pancakes, hot chocolate and orange juice before passing out in our beds.

Then we come to cheer.
Cheer is an interesting time for ESPN. Its busy, chaotic, crazy and at the end of it, you feel like you have just come out of a war zone. Throughout Cheer, I was always in what was known as the ‘Blue stand’. There we sell burgers, burgers and more burgers. I slowly became in charge of the blue stand without even knowing it. One day I went 7 hours without seeing a leader (which is a manager) and when they did come to check on the stand, they simply smiled and state, ‘See I knew this stand was going to be fine, Tasha’s here’. It meant a lot that the leaders put so much faith in my leadership ability. Anyway, that is just a brief summary of what cheer is like. If you ask any of my friends about cheer, the world ‘triggered’ will surly leaver their mouth.

There were tons of other events at ESPN, including Softball, Pro bowl, Jr NBA, NCAA ( I don’t know much about this even other than my friend's college basketball team was playing, LSU). We also held a charity concert at ESPN towards the end of the year. All of these events were a lot of fun, and I have so many memories of each of them which I will probably expand on later, either in a blog post or video on YouTube.

The last part about working at ESPN which was both a blessing a curse was that I was able to work all over Walt Disney World. ESPN is closed for a good portion of the year as it is too hot to compete. So they send us to other locations. As a result, I was able to work at all four theme parks, both water parks, Disney Springs, Disneys Board Walk and three of their resorts. I will definitely be posting another blog post about all the places I worked in the future.

If there is anything you would like to know about working at ESPN or want me to expand on any of these events I would be more than happy to! just let me know in the comments.
