It's a Small World
As someone who has travelled a lot, and who have friends who travel, I have had the opportunity to make friends all around the world. This is both a blessing and a curse. It is so wonderful knowing people from different countries, it means I get to learn about life in other cultures and places. It sucks because of the time zones and trying to talk and catching up. it's hard when everyone is busy and you go weeks or months without talking. and sometimes years between visits.
I am still learning how to keep in touch with everyone I love from around the world, sometimes I will message them, sometimes the other way around. It's even harder to find a date and place to meet up in especially if there is a group of us wanting to catch up. Money and time off work all play a part and when most people can meet up and two cant it just doesn't feel right.
Sometimes you just have to do your best to keep the connections with people, and the connection you can keep with having long-distance friends are amazing, it means that you can stand the test of time and distance even if I when you see each other its few and far between, its like you never went a day without seeing each other.
When I lived in the USA I did not do a very good job of keeping in touch with my Australian friends, I believe this I because my time in the USA was limited to a year and so I knew I would be coming back to see them. I did message and chat every now and then but nowhere near as much as I would have if we lived in the same city. I want to do a better job with my USA and UK friends now that I am here in Australia.
Since I have no idea when the next time I will see some of these people again I am making a conscious effort to message them and chat at least once or twice a week. I have a few group chats going to that we can keep the group dynamic going even though we are all scattered around the world.
I know that if my friends put in as much effort as I will (and I know they will!) it will be easy keeping the friendships I have made.
Thanks for Reading, See you Next Week
