Beauty and the Beast
2016/17 seems to be all about live action remakes of Disney Classics. With Cinderella and the Jungle Book already having been released, and now Beauty and the Beast.
Now I love the original animated version, the songs were amazing, it was visually beautiful and a childhood classic of mine. I went and saw the live action remake on Friday with my Best Friend Bianca (go check out her blog too!) and let me just say WOW.
This version is amazing. The plot and shots are almost parallel to the original. They do a great job at matching scene for scene for 90 percent of the film. The other 10 percent are the extra songs they added (and damn they are good!)
Emma Watson does a great job at portraying Belle; I had no idea she has such an amazing singing voice.
My personal favourite songs from the film were:
All of the songs are wonderful, though.
I also wanted to touch on the controversial 'gay' scenes and character. So SPOILERS AHEAD (skip to after the photo to avoid any and all!)
As some of you may know, there has been some backlash by Disney for having a gay character in the new film. Firstly, how ridiculous to even suggest this is a bad thing! Having a gay character is so progressive, we honestly need more animated children's films to be so inclusive!
No for the spoiler part. I counted three scenes, THREE that could be considered 'gay' The first is during the song 'Gaston' Where Gaston ends up Holding Lague from behind with his hands over his shoulds, they are holding hands. The second scene (which is a background character that has no name) is accepted by the wardrobe and is clothed in a dress, while his other two companions run in horror, this character looks down and smiles, looking rather comfortable in a dress, he then turns and gracefully starts to walk down the stairs. The last scene is of Lefue and the before mentioned background character having 0.2 seconds of screen time together of them dancing and Belle's and Beast wedding.
That is it! Those are the only three scenes that could be considered 'gay' in anyway. And nothing is even wrong with them; guys hug, anyone can wear a dress, its ok for two guys to dance together.
Alright, spoilers are done. Back to the film.
Overall I enjoyed this film. I would give it a 7.5/10.
I would love to know what you think of the film (No Spoilers if you leave a comment please)
Have a great day
